Bill Manahan

Bill Manahan, MD

Bill Manahan, MD, is Assistant Professor Emeritus with the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota Academic Health Center in Minneapolis. For 20 years, he was also on the clinical faculty of Mayo Medical School. He is Past-President of the American Holistic Medical Association and author of the 1988 book, Eat for Health. Dr. Manahan co-founded The Wellness Center of Minnesota (1982-1992), one of America’s first interdisciplinary integrative medicine centers. In 1992, he founded Open Door Health Center in Mankato, a clinic for the underserved and uninsured. He was also in 1995 the Founder and Program Director of Minnesota’s first Rural Family Medicine Residency Program.

In 1989, he founded the Minnesota Holistic Medicine Group – an interdisciplinary group that presently has 800 practitioners from all healthcare disciplines. Their purpose is to 1) connect with like-minded practitioners, 2) learn from each other, and 3) begin to develop interdisciplinary patient referral practices.

Presently, Bill consults with physicians and clinics wishing to expand into a more integrative and holistic practice, and he is working to help make the primary healthcare system more holistic, more integrative, more spiritual, and more joyful for patients and practitioners.

Sara Jean Barrett, ND

Sara Jean Barrett, N.D. is a registered Naturopathic Doctor in Minnesota.  She received her B.S. in Biology with highest honor from The Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). Dr. Barrett graduated first in her class with a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona. While in medical school she expanded and ran a peer to peer tutoring center and helped develop a new curriculum for the college.

In the fall of 2012, Dr. Barrett moved to Bloomington, MN where she started a private practice. In 2014, Dr. Barrett co-founded Wellness Minneapolis, an integrative clinic located in the Kingfield neighborhood of Minneapolis. Dr. Barrett believes that integrative care is the future of medicine and is dedicated to creating an environment where patients and providers thrive. Dr. Barrett is also the President of the Minnesota Association of Naturopathic Physicians. A non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of Naturopathic Medicine in Minnesota.

In her private practice, Dr. Barrett specializes in treating patients with autoimmune disease, chronic illness, digestive concerns and hormone imbalances. She takes pride in the relationships she establishes and works to empower everyone she encounters to make those important changes that will enhance their lives.
